Greetings from the 2012 President

Greetings from the President

I am honored to have been elected to serve as the president of the regional SBL for 2012 and I look forward to being with all of you next spring at Andover Newton.
This is an exciting time to be engaged in Biblical Studies. Familiar texts continually take on new layers of meaning as we learn to ask new questions and see them in new frameworks. The meetings of our guild, both national and regional provide important opportunities to engage in that process of discovery. Our own region is particularly rich in intellectual resources, brought by both seasoned senior scholars and new participants in the field who bring new energy to the enterprise. It is always a delight to see these colleagues engaged in the scholarly debate and our next regional meeting should be no exception.

I wish you all the best for a productive academic year and an exciting meeting next spring.

Sincerely,

Harold W. Attridge

  1. Yes, welcome, Dr. Attridge. We met years ago at a Pew event. No matter. I may want to talk to you about Hebrews some time. I have been writing on atonement, focusing largely on Paul, but more recently on Hebrews (as in _Options on Atonement_).

I have been teaching at Fordham, Salve Regina, etc., but am now going to pastor a UMC in Providence, RI. Now I get to PRACTICE this stuff!
